Dy. CM Opens Pallikaranai Grade Seperator!
On Oct.29th Dy.CM Thiru. M.K.Stalin opened the long awaited Pallikaranai Grade Seperator. This grade seperator has been constructed at the junction of Velachery main road and Pallavaram-Thoraipakkam Radial road near NIOT. This two-way bridge will bear the bulk of the heavy traffic coming from Tambaram towards Velachery and vice versa. Ever since the Radial road was laid connecting GST Road to OMR, motorists felt the need for proper street lights and policing. Signals at this junction was a long felt need as this road witnessed heavy vehicular traffic and accidents also.
Now that this grade seperator has been constructed, traffic flow would be smoother. This 6 lane grade seperator is expected to extend upto Vijayanagar junction, where traffic faces a bottleneck. This junction is yet to be extended to its original width. Already the Vijayanagar junction sees increased flow of heavy traffic due to the Velachery MRTS station. According to official sources a moffusil bus stand will soon come up next to the station. The bridge connecting Radial road to GST Road over the railway tracks at Chrompet is also nearing completion. Once this is completed, then the Radial road would see even more heavy traffic. Residents feel that the Pallikaranai Grade Seperator construction has been timely and futuristic. Compound Wall for Perungudi dumpyard!
The Save Pallikaranai Marshland Forum (SPMF) has been fighting since 2002 to save the marshland from encroachments, and degradation due to dumping of garbage by the Chennai Corporation and sewerage water by the CMWSSB. The result of the SPMF’s campaign is the construction of a compound wall to contain the garbage dumping along the Pallavaram-Thoraipakkam Radial Road. The SPMF has also been campaigning to bring the marshland under the Forest Act. This has been achieved partly, with 347hectares declared protected under the Forest Act. Storm Water Canal readied for Monsoons!

EB Post yet to be Shifted!
The TNEB, Velachery is yet to act on the removal of redundant electric posts in the storm water canal and in some of the inner streets as well. When contacted EB officials stated that the amount for shifting the EB posts has been remitted by the State Highways. But as of now the shifting is not possible, as a new project to build sub-stations in Madipakkam, Selaiyur and Rajkilpakkam is underway. Once the sub-station in Madipakkam is ready, all the EB posts in the storm water canal will be shifted automatically. Till then motorists have to bear with bottlenecks and traffic jams at the Vijayanagar junction.

Free Spectacles Distributed!
On Oct. 10th.the President and members of the Rotary Club of Chennai, Velachery participated in a function St.Antony’s School, Tansi Nagar, for the distribution of free spectacles to school children.This project was the outcome of a screening campaign held for more than 1000 students of the school last month by the doctors of Sankara Eye Hospital, Pammal, in association with the Rotary Club of Chennai, Velachery.Rtn.Gopalakrishnan,Dir. Community Services welcomed the gathering. The function was presided by the Chief Guest Mr.E.Sarath Babu, a leading young Chennai entrepreneur and “Pepsi –MTV Youth ICON 2008”-Award winner. An alumnus of IIM(A), he narrated his life story of rags to riches. A resident of Madipakkam, through sheet dint of hard work and determination, his company Foodking has grown today to employ more than 1000 people. His speech proved to be inspiring to the students of the school, most of whom are underprivileged. Later he distributed the free spectacles to the students along withMr..B.Sreekumar,Pres.Rotary Club of Chennai, Velachery, Mr.Natarajan,Dir.Youth Services, Ms.Prabha,Dir. Community Health, Mr.Jagdish Krishnamoorthy, and Mr.Easwaran Rotary district officials, and Mr.Babu,CEO (HR) of Sankara Eye Hospital. Mr.E.Sarath Babu announced cash prizes for all outstanding performers of the School to encourage their academic excellence.The Principal of the School, Sister Mary thanked the Rotary Club of Chennai for the various welfare projects done at the school by the club on a continuing basis.
As a follow up of the event, the Sanakra Eye hospital,Pammal, has offered a free cataract checkup camp to be conducted shortly at the school, for the benefit of the parents and other residents in the locality with the support of the Rotary Club of Chennai, Velachery.

Bharathanatya Arangetram!
Five students of Smt.Malarkodi Vijayaraghavan of Sri Hari Abinaya Krishna Bharathanatya Isai Palli, Velachery performed their Bharathanatya Arangetram on Oct.21st. at Kasturi Sreenivasan Hall, Music Academy. Smt.Veneradai Nirmala was the chief guest.The students S.Thrisha, G.Dhanalakshmi, Toshiba Muruganatham, M.Anchali, K.Rishitha and Arjitha Balaji were blessed by special invitees Sri.K.Majini, Producer, Makkal T.V., Sri Madhu and Smt.Shanthi. Mrs. Malarkodi Vijayaraghavan has been successfully running her Bharathanatyam school in Velachery and East Tambaram for many years. She is a recipient of Gold Medal from Dr.M.G.R., former CM of Tamilnadu.

Tooth Sensitivity
What is Tooth Sensitivity?
It can be defined as a stinging reaction in one or more teeth triggered by hot, cold, sweet or sout foods and drinks. This pain can be sharp, sudden adn shoot deep into the nerve ending of your teeth.
Apart from a cavaty or a missing filling, the most common cause of tooth sensitivity is exposed dentin on the roots of your teeth. Normally, the dentin (the second most sensitive layer of the tooth) is surrounded and protected by the enmel, cementum(special root covering) and gums. There are little tubes that connect the dentin to the nerve or pulp which serve as sensory conductors. That sensation may be one of pain. OUCH!!! Causes of exposed root surface which may result in dentinal sensitivity.
What causes Tooth Sensitivity?
Brushing too hard- Over a period of time, brushing too hard or using a hard-bristled tooth brush may wear away enamel or cementum and cause the dentin to be exposed.
Recession of the gums- Movement of the gums away from the tooth due to periodontal disease will expose the root surface.
Gum disease- Inflamed and sore gum tissue may also cause sensitivity due to the loss of supporting ligaments which exposes the root surface.
Improper brushing method- Brushing in horizontal direction alone can cause sancer shaperd wearing off of the necks of the teeth especially the back teeth.
Other causes of sensitive teeth
Cracked teeth- Chipped or broken teeth may fill up with bacteria from plaque and enter the pulp causing an inflammatory reaction.
Grinding your teeth- Grinding or clenching your teeth may wear down the enamel and expose the underlying dentin.
Plaque- The presence of plaque in the root surfaces can cause sensitivity.
What to do at home?
Maintain good oral hygiene- continue to clean all parts of your teeth and mouth thoroughly.
Use a soft bristled toothbrush. This will result in less toothbrush abrasion of the tooth surface.
Consider what you eat. If you frequently eat foods high in acids, such as citrus fruits,eg. sucking on lemons, they can gradually dissolve the enamel over a time leading to dentin exposure.
Practise proper brushing method. Vertical strokes to clean the front teeth and rolling motion for the back teeth.
